With it’s five year mission completed under the command of Captain James T. Kirk, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 was ordered into dry-dock where it underwent extensive upgrades that affected every aspect of the venerable starship. The silhouette featuring it’s signature saucer-shaped primary hull was still underlapped by a lower secondary hull. Newly swept back pylons held modernized engines that were capable of warp factor 9. The ship’s skin may have provided the most recognizable change with it’s marine gray metal plating giving way to a glistening series of panels arranged in patterns that appear reminiscent of ancient Aztec hieroglyphics. As with today’s technology, the Enterprise refit’s upgrade proved problematic under the emergency command of Admiral Kirk. The ship’s premature departure required Chief Engineer, Mr. Scott, to work through initial problems with help from Vulcan Science Officer Spock. It was a small hurdle in what became another historic mission for the Enterprise and her stalwart crew. This plastic assembly kit of the U.S.S. Enterprise refit measures 22″ long. It is molded in white and clear and includes a dome-style base featuring a metal rod. Ship registry and engineering hull decals are included.
