Don “The Snake” Prudhomme ( April 6, 1941 a true legend of the sport, concluded his 47th year in drag racing when he retired in 2009. He spent 32 seasons behind the wheel as one of the sports elite drivers followed by 15 seasons as a successful team owner. He began his career crewing foe TV Tommy Ivo but by the age of 20, he scored his 1st professional victory in a dragster. In 1965 he was the first to win both the Winternationals and U.S. Nationals in the same season. He moved from Top fuel to Funny Cars in 1973 and won his first Nationals. In 1975 he was first to break the 6 second mark. He went on to set the NHRA Funny Car World Record in 1980, a record he would re-set 2 more times ending in 1988 with a time of 5.305 seconds. Prudhomme did not stop re-writing the NHRA record books despite leaving his role as a driver to become a multi-car team owner. He was inducted into both the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
